Senior Automation QA Engineer (Senior Quality Engineer / SDET)


Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Automation QA Engineer to lead and scale quality engineering in a fast-paced Agile environment. This is a hands-on role focused on building and evolving automation-first testing strategies across UI, API, and end-to-end workflows. The role places a strong emphasis on Katalon Studio as the primary automation platform, while remaining adaptable to complementary tools as needed. You will partner closely with Software Engineering, Product, and DevOps teams to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle and enable reliable, frequent delivery.
Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Quality Engineering
  • Own and evolve an end-to-end test strategy aligned to product risk, architecture, and release cadence.
  • Drive shift-left testing by participating in backlog grooming, requirements review, and design discussions.
  • Define and enforce quality gates using automated tests within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on defects and identify systemic improvements.
Automation Frameworks & Test Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and suites using Katalon Studio as the preferred tool.
  • Build and maintain automated tests for UI, API, and regression coverage.
  • Develop reusable, maintainable test components and data strategies.
  • Execute exploratory and targeted manual testing for complex or high-risk scenarios.
CI/CD, Tooling, and Reliability
  • Integrate Katalon automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  • Monitor automation health, reduce flaky tests, and improve diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Engineering to ensure stable test environments and efficient execution.
Agile Collaboration & Quality Leadership
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Lead defect triage, prioritization, and validation of fixes.
  • Communicate quality status, risks, and release readiness to stakeholders.

Mentoring & Continuous Improvement
    • Mentor QA engineers on automation best practices.
    • Promote consistent QA standards and continuous improvement across teams.
    • Stay current with emerging QA, automation, and AI-assisted testing practices.
Qualifications
Required
    • 5+ years of experience in QA or Quality Engineering with a strong automation focus.
    • Hands-on expertise with Katalon Studio for UI and API automation.
    • Experience testing REST APIs using Katalon, Postman, or similar tools.
    • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
    • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
    • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language used in automation.
    • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
    • Experience designing automation frameworks from the ground up.
    • Exposure to complementary tools such as Selenium or Playwright.
    • Experience with performance or security testing.
    • Familiarity with AI-assisted or self-healing test automation concepts.
