Subject Matter Expert Sustainable Packaging (with focus on PPWR)

At FoodChain ID we work every day with our customers on making the food and food contact supply chain safe and transparent. Are you passionate about sustainable packaging and regulatory innovation? For the expansion of our Packaging team, we are looking for a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Sustainable Packaging to help our clients navigate the evolving EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

🧩 What You'll Do:
  • Advise customers (brand owners, converters, packaging manufacturers) on how to meet PPWR requirements.
  • Support the implementation of PPWR compliance strategies, from recyclability to reuse targets and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to co-develop the software that facilitates PPWR compliance and other packaging sustainability initiatives (e.g. recyclability scoring, reuse tracking, digital passports).
  • Translate regulatory requirements into actionable packaging guidance and practical business solutions.
  • Keep up to date with developments in EU legislation, EPR schemes, and industry best practices.

✅ What You Bring:
  • Experience (> 2 years) in sustainable packaging, regulatory affairs, or packaging compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of PPWR (final text or near-final drafts), its implications for different packaging types, and sustainability metrics (recyclability, reuse, compostability).
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate them clearly to clients.
  • Experience in project-based consulting and stakeholder management.
  • A collaborative mindset with an interest in digital tools and innovation (e.g. data platforms, LCA tools, traceability systems).
  • Availability to work from our office in Deventer (Netherlands) at least once a week.
