Cloud Engineer I – Cloud Services (remote)

FoodChain ID is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Cloud Services team as a Cloud Engineer I. This entry-level role is responsible for supporting and maintaining our cloud hosting environment, including tasks such as operating system patching, environment monitoring, and issue troubleshooting. The position offers strong opportunities for growth and advancement through hands-on experience, mentorship from senior team members, and participation in strategic cloud initiatives. This role reports to the Cloud Services Manager.

Primary Job Duties
 
  • Track work and document task details in an issue and project management system.
  • Support and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to perform routine administration and maintenance of cloud environments.
  • Monitor the health and performance of cloud systems; identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Conduct regular patching, updates, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Apply and enforce cloud security best practices in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist in deploying applications and services in cloud environments using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including knowledge base articles and runbooks.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support and incident response.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
The following qualifications represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the Cloud Engineer I role:
  • Experience managing AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
  • Experience managing Windows and/or Linux servers, including user and group management (e.g., Active Directory).
  • Understanding of core networking concepts, such as subnets, firewalls, DNS, VPNs, and load balancers.
  • Basic proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git: cloning, branching, committing).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
  • Understanding of monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, OpenSearch, Nagios, or CheckMK.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional off-hours support as needed.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
The following qualifications are highly desirable and will strengthen a candidate’s application:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Relevant cloud or technical certifications, such as:
    • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
    • Azure Fundamentals
    • AWS Solutions Architect Associate
    • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
    • General IT Certifications such as CompTIA or Microsoft MCSA/MCSE.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new technologies quickly.
  • Strong desire to grow professionally and expand cloud engineering skills.
  • Exposure to containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) and basic ITIL concepts.
